Teen Volunteers

Kids Under Twenty One was founded to be a unique place providing peer-to-peer support for the teen population of St. Louis. KUTO Volunteers come from all walks of life, represent many different schools and neighborhoods and have helped the agency make the St. Louis community a better place for all teens.

Volunteering is a great way to gain new skills and learn more about YOUR individual potential. You'll learn learn life changing skills, meet new people and feel great about yourself as you become a 'teen helping teens help themselves.

Crisis Helpline Crisis Worker Volunteer

Crisis Worker candidates must be between 15 ½ & 21 years old, possess good basic communication skills and the willingness to be mentored by their peers.

CW candidates are asked to:

  • Submit a written Crisis Worker Application
  • Complete a brief telephone interview
  • Satisfactorily complete Crisis Helpline Basic Training
  • Complete peer mentored Observations and Consultations
  • Make a commitment: to volunteer at one (1) shift each week for six months

Peer Helper Team Volunteer

Peer Helper Team candidates must be at least 14 years, have good basic communication skills and be confident and comfortable speaking in front of others.

PHT candidates are asked to:

  • Submit a written Peer Helper Team Application
  • Complete a brief telephone interview
  • Satisfactorily complete KUTO Peer Helper Training
  • Be available to co-facilitate peer helper trainings at other schools

There is no charge for this life-saving training. If interested, please fill out the Peer Helper application

SurvivAbilty Volunteer

SurvivAbility One-2-One candidates typically have experienced a personal loss to suicide or other similarly traumatic loss. Candidates must be between 15 ½ & 21 years old, have satisfactorily completed either KUTO Crisis Worker &/or Peer Helper Team training as well as an advanced grief and bereavement workshop.

SurvivAbility candidates are asked to:

  • Submit a written SurvivAbility One-2-One Application
  • Complete personal interview detailing survivor issues and likely grief responses
  • Be available to facilitate One-2-One meetings and adequate follow-up
  • Agree to confer with KUTO staff following One-2-One meetings and follow-ups

Community Outreach Volunteer

Can't find the time to squeeze in a KUTO program training and short on free-time? Become the 'face of KUTO' on your campus! Help get the KUTO message out to the community; make sure your school has an inventory of KUTO Helpline wallet cards, post volunteer recruiting posters, spear-head the Yellow Ribbon Project, Winning With Wellness or Saving Our Students; there are lots of ways you can be involved with KUTO in just a few hours a month.

Community Outreach candidates are asked to

  • Contact the Program Director and complete a brief telephone interview
  • Satisfactorily complete an agency, philosophy and program orientation training
  • Serve as the liaison between your school/group and KUTO staff
  • Be an enthusiastic Ambassador for KUTO!
